Dear East Middle School Families,
I hope this finds you well.
It's hard to believe we are only a few weeks away from the end of this year's journey. I've got several things to update you on.
KSA Testing
The BIG test is coming, and I need your help. Of the thousands of things I've learned this year as a new principal, student motivation is one I am still struggling to figure out. I've observed that elementary students tend to want to please their teachers - they try hard simply because they are asked to do so. Up in high school, kids realize their GPA and performance on big assessments matter - it sets them up for the next phase of life. Middle school students, though, seem to fall into a different category. And the most difficult part is that their category seems to change... ALL. THE. TIME.
At the end of the day, KSA is a massive indicator of student and school performance. It dictates many components of the next school year. We are working hard to help our students understand the magnitude of this assessment, and I would appreciate your help in having similar conversations at home. Talk to your student about quality effort. Talk to them about internal motivations. Talk to them about integrity and pride in what they have done this entire year. After all the work they've put in this year, they deserve to shine at the end.
The Kentucky Summative Assessment begins May 6.
8th Grade Promotion - Save the Date
Our 8th-grade promotion event will take place on May 22. It will be at Shelby County High School at 5:00 pm. More information will come about this soon.
Chromebooks
If your student has special permission to bring home their Chromebook, this will end on April 28th. All Chromebooks will stay at school from that point on.

Online Registration is now open. Learn more here: https://www.canva.com/design/DAFdRANYxnI/3oj1O4hHO7MWs3U7DyJA3Q/view?utm_content=DAFdRANYxnI&utm_campaign=designshare&utm_medium=link2&utm_source=uniquelinks&utlId=habfc739186
School-wide Field Trip
We are excited to take our entire school to a Lexington Legends baseball game on April 30. Be sure to send in your student's permission slip and money! Every student will get admission, lunch, and transportation to the game - all you need for an enjoyable afternoon helping us all get our minds right for the upcoming BIG TEST.
NOTE: The Legends operate a cashless facility. This means if your student wants to purchase other things while at the game, they will need a card to do that. Our no-cell-phone policy will still be in effect.
