From the Desk of Principal Allan

Ryan Allan

Dear East Middle School Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well! I also hope your East Middle student is settling into the school year. Please continue to share your stories and feedback with me. My goal is to keep you informed and your student engaged as we travel this road together.

I wanted to let you know about an upcoming change to our roster. Often, situations dictate coaches to change their starting lineup on the athletic field. East is experiencing one of those moments in the classroom. It will impact a handful of sixth graders and all eighth graders.

Our hearts are with Mrs. Stevens who has had to make (the correct) tough decision to support her family and resign from her position at East Middle. In her short time with us, she has impacted our school significantly. While we are sad to see her go, she is doing what is best for her family and we support her decision completely.

On the opposite side of that coin, we are pleased to welcome Ashley Taylor and Triny Flores onto the EMS staff. Mrs. Taylor has been transitioning into the eighth-grade ELA-Reading position this past week. Ms. Flores is an English Language Learner (Bilingual) Assistant. She will be working with students across the entire school and filling in a much-needed role.

These changes (beginning Monday) will impact us as follows:

  • First period sixth-grade Math will be taught by Mrs. Lascelle

  • First-period eighth-grade Math will be taught by Mrs. Coffman

  • All other eighth-grade Math classes will be taught by Mrs. Keiner-Rummel

  • All eighth-grade ELA-Reading classes will be taught by Ms. Taylor

While we have to make these line-up changes, I want to assure you we will not compromise our commitment to high-quality instruction.

In partnership,

Principal Allan

New Bleachers

We're getting a needed safety upgrade to the bleachers in our gym. The "flooring" where students and fans put their feet is in bad shape. This week, we will be upgrading the bleachers to address this concern. It's one of those jobs that may not be noticed but is very necessary.

It will impact how we do our mornings this week while the work is being done. Typically, students meet in the gym until 8:30 when we dismiss them to 1st period. This week, students will pick up their breakfasts and report to their Advisory classrooms until we dismiss to 1st period.

Superintendent's Report

We were very proud of our 8th graders this past week when they demonstrated their learning in one of the district's first Exhibition Days. Dr. Matthews recognized them in his weekly report (linked below!) We got many compliments, including one from a representative from the Utah Department of Education who visited.

A big thank you to Mrs. Rose (8th grade Science) for coordinating the opportunity for your students to exhibit their learning.

If you get the chance to watch Dr. Matthews's video, also notice the video and pictures from last week's football game were also spotlighted.
