The cold weather moved in, and we are feeling the excitement as our fall semester ends. I visited the SC Area Technology Center last week and was so impressed with the students' exhibitions of learning. Students demonstrated the skills and knowledge they have acquired while also showing their competencies of the Profile of a Graduate such as being an Effective Communicator, a Critical Thinker, and a Lifelong Learner. Several of our schools have exhibitions of learning coming up in December. Check our Upcoming Events below and join in the excitement of our exhibitions of learning in SCPS.

Also, this month, we look forward to our end-of-semester concerts by our schools' bands and choirs. They certainly put us in the holiday spirit. Join us on Saturday at the Shelbyville Christmas Parade. Many of our schools will have floats or entries and we love seeing our families at our community events. Simpsonville Elementary is teaming up with the City of Simpsonville this weekend at their Light-up Simpsonville event!

Mrs. Seely sets her students up for success by having them engage in Passion Projects! Today, after completing research on space, one of her students had the opportunity to interview a rocket/aerospace engineer for NASA, Alora Mazarakis. Ms. Mazarakis attended PSE, WMS, and Collins High School!

Allen Phillips Invitation

Mr. Allen Phillips has served the Shelby County Board of Education for over 36 years. Mr. Allen Phillips is a retired dairy farmer of 53 years currently raising corn, soybeans, and alfalfa hay with his son and granddaughters. He also has a cow/calf operation. Mr. Phillips graduated from Shelby County High School and attended the welding and tool and die school in Aberdeen, Maryland. He initially ran for the BOE because he wanted to be a voice for his community and the taxpayers of his district. Mr. Phillips has NEVER MISSED A MEETING!

Mr. Phillips said, “ I love to see the growth and progress of our school system and how we have been on the cutting edge with our buildings and our curriculum and I love watching our students becoming college and career-ready.”

On Thursday, December 12th, we will celebrate Mr. Phillips and his service to Shelby County Public School students and families with a reception at the Board Office, 1155 W. Main Street, Shelbyville, KY, at 5:00 pm before the board meeting. Please feel free to drop by and show your gratitude to Mr. Phillips.
