I hope everyone had a wonderful week!
I want to take a moment to remind both teachers and parents of the importance of discussing the seriousness of school threats with our students. While a student may not think much of sharing a post on social media or passing along a rumor, these actions can be harmful and disruptive to the school environment. If a student hears or sees a potential threat, it is crucial they report it to a responsible adult immediately. Keeping our students, staff, and school safe requires all of us to work together.
Following the unsubstantiated threat last Friday, we met with local law enforcement and dispatch to review and ensure our communication processes are as streamlined and effective as possible. We deeply value our partnership with local law enforcement and appreciate everything they do for us. The men and women serving Shelby County are some of Kentucky's best and most supportive. We also extend our gratitude to the fire department, emergency management, and dispatch teams for their exceptional efficiency, support, and commitment to keeping our children safe. Together, we take our responsibility seriously.
Last Friday, we hosted representatives from the Kentucky Department of Education's KY ILN and L3 groups, comprised of district and school administrators focused on dynamic learning and local accountability. Dr. Adam Hicks, Mr. Dan Pfaff, and Ben Roberts spoke about our Profile of a Graduate initiative and the Defenses of Learning program. They also introduced our new community dashboard, part of our updated local accountability system, which provides a transparent view of our district's daily operations. Dr. Hicks and Mr. Pfaff have done an outstanding job leading this project, and we're proud of the new 2.0 version. This dashboard will help hold us accountable while giving our stakeholders a clear picture of what we do daily at SCPS.
Learning and Teaching Focus:
This week, we are diving into the second strategy/behavior from the Artisan Teacher list – the concept of congruency. Unlike correlated activities, which might be beneficial but don't necessarily align with the learning goal, congruent activities directly support the Clear Learning Goal. As teachers, we understand the challenge of finding enough time to teach all the standards to proficiency. That's why focusing on congruency is vital – ensuring every activity is aligned with and reinforces the learning objective. For more insights, check out what Mike Rutherford says about congruency.
Thank you all for your continued support in helping make our schools safe and our students successful. Let's have a great week ahead!
Inspired activities and community engagement enhance our learning and leadership across the district.
